You were designed by Satan or a Japanese engineer with long skinny arms. Maybe both. I hate you.

Is that an NB? On those you have to remove that bracket with the three bolts behind it.

It's an NA but it's the same. I got the bracket out and I got my replacement one in. My old ones threads were gone. The problem is I have gotten to the point where it is fed all the way through except for the last bit of the alternator. I worry I may have messed up yesterday attempting to install it from the front (like a sane human being) and over tightening it. It flattened the end out a bit and I'm worrried it won't go through the threads on the front of the alternator now.

I am sad to say that I've done the same thing and now have a comprehensive metric tap and die set for the occasions. Blerg.

Ah - either you missed the sticker somewhere on the engine indicating "no user serviceable parts inside" or else it's a perfect part, assuming the engine is lifted up 8 inches and the hood is off.
I am so filled with black design fu when I run into a part that any reasonable garage crew would assume needs to be replaceable and the part itself isn't, because assembly sequence was just too hard to deal with.
I suggest an Oppo "First Annual Design Engineer Shoot and BBQ" this summer. Bring the family, lots of games, high velocity gun target practice, and best of all, fresh [crappy] Design Engineer Hot Dogs.
